For the third consecutive year, Theatre Works transforms into a vibrant, provoking and proud Midsumma Festival hub this April, presenting three works over three weeks in our innovative and intimate Glasshouse format.
Making its world premiere at Theatre Works as it opens our Midsumma program, Bent, presented by Variation Three, is a unique fusion of circus, dance, and visual art and a stirring exploration of what it means to be queer in today’s world. Written by Reuben James, Bent is a response to the ongoing political debate on LGBTQIA+ lives that plays from April 19th – 22nd.
Stage Mom, the award-winning team behind Midsumma smash hit Truly Madly Britney, return to Theatre Works in April with the world premiere of their new work, Love You Bitch. Hilarious, moving and deeply relatable, Love You Bitch invites you to gather the people you know too well for a cutting look at intimacy, insecurity and the secret meaning of Kylie Minogue’s Spinning Around. Playing April 24th – 28th.
Rounding off the Theatre Works Midsumma Season is the Australian premiere of Jo Clifford’s legendary play, The Gospel According to Jesus, Queen of Heaven, a revolutionary queer ritual in which bread is shared, wine is drunk and familiar stories are reimagined by a transgender Jesus. “One of the most remarkable journeys in recent theatre history” (The Scotsman), Queen Jesus plays from April 30th – May 8th.
For all three shows presented in TW Glasshouse, patrons are able to book an exclusive perspex booth for themselves and their whole group at an all inclusive price. Small Booths (up to 3 people total). Large Booths (up to 6 people total) are now on sale.
